How recyclable is your packaging? How to assess it correctly today

What can be said today, with confidence

Until the delegated acts, there are no "official recyclability grades" - any percentage displayed with confidence is a methodological estimate, not a legal value. What CAN be done with confidence: the qualitative assessment against the EN 13430 standard - material composition, separability of components, substances that disrupt recycling, the share of mass available for recycling.

The warning signs are visible without a laboratory: PVC or PVDC anywhere in the packaging, EPS/XPS, labels covering almost the whole body, non-separable combinations of materials from different families. In their current form, these will not pass the 2030 criteria.

Why now, if the deadline is 2030

Because redesigning packaging takes time: new suppliers, line trials, stock to run down, artwork to redo. Whoever finds out in 2029 that their packaging does not pass the threshold only has time left for expensive solutions. Whoever assesses now has four years to change at their own pace.
